Tomorrow night I get to put my Toastmaster skills to the test during a panel discussion about citizen journalism at the Burbank Public Library, specifically to sing the praises of the LA Daily News' community hub, ValleyNews.com
I've been writing about Grand View Memorial Park in Glendale on ValleyNews.com since last August. From day one it's been one of the most rewarding writing assignments I've ever taken because it connects me with people in my community and the world(wide web) at large. I'm reporting on a story that affects so many people so I know I'm helping them by providing information they wouldn't normally get in the mainstream media.
Plus, it gives me an opportunity to further explore hobby-level interest in graveyards.
I encourage anyone who likes to take photos and blog, and who has an interest in getting more involved with their community to consider becoming a volunteer citizen journalist.
Want to know more about this newest form of communication? Stop by Wednesday night! Leading the events will be Jason Kandel, ValleyNews.com's community reporter for the Burbank/Glendale (or as he calls it, "Burbdale") area.
Wednesday, March 7 - 7:00 PM
