This page contains current visitation opening orders for Grand View, courtesy of Paul Ayers who supplies us with regular updates. Thank you, Paul!
If you want the cemetery openings to continue and increase in frequency there are two things you can do:
1. Volunteer - We need people who can commit to one or two openings a month. People interested in volunteering at upcoming visitations should call the law office of David Baum at (310) 990-3660.
2. Obey the Rules - Especially regarding fire. It is very important that there be no smoking, fires or use of incense during the opening. Violations of this rule can cause the Glendale Fire Marshall to oppose further openings.
On June 2, 2010, Judge Mohr ordered that Grand View be opened on the following 2010 dates: June 6, June 13, June 20, June 27. PROPOSED DATES INCLUDE July 4 [Independence Day], July 18, August 1, August 15, August 29, September 12, September 26, October 10 and October 24, 2010; all openings will be from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
IMPORTANT NOTES RE CURRENT VISITATION SCHEDULE
1. You will notice that Grand View will be open every Sunday during the month of June. This is to partially to compensate for the extended closing of the cemetery that is expected to accompany restoration activities.
2. We expect installation of an automatic irrigation system and other restoration activities to commence sometime between July 1 and September 1, 2010. For public safety, the cemetery will be closed while these activities are going on. The best estimate for the closure is 10-15 weeks.
3. It is hoped that once the automatic irrigation system is in place that the resulting savings in labor costs will allow the cemetery to be opened more frequently.
4. A separate e-mail will explain the restoration process in more detail and will attempt to answer the most commonly asked questions regarding the restoration and the future of the cemetery.
The following notes remain in effect.
1. Volunteers-We need people who can commit to one or two openings a month. People interested in volunteering at upcoming visitations should call the law office of David Baum at (310) 990-3660.
2. Obey the Rules-Especially regarding fire. It is very important that there be no smoking, fires or use of incense during the opening. Violations of this rule can cause the Glendale Fire Marshall to oppose further openings.
As noted before although the class action has settled, Judge Mohr will retain jurisdiction pending completion of all the terms of the settlement including the restoration process. As such, openings may be controlled by the Court for an indefinite time.
