When Grand View Memorial Park opens to visitors today and tomorrow (Sunday, May 29th and Monday, May 30th from 12-4pm both days) they'll be greeted by over 400 American flags which were placed on the graves of service men and women this weekend by Boy Scouts from the Verdugo Hills Council.
Dozens of scouts for several different troops spent Saturday morning using their map reading skills to locate the graves, uncovering some that needed trimming, placing a flag and honoring the veteran with a salute and moment of silent reflection and prayer.
The Verdugo Hills Council office is located across the street from Grand View, and it was wonderful to have our neighbors over to help prepare fo Memorial Day. We look forward to doing more activities with these amazing young men in the future. Stay tuned to this blog for more photos from the day as volunteers send their pictures in.
While the grounds are looking amazingly green and gorgeous, many of the regular band of volunteers worked Friday and Saturday to do clean up in the mausolueums, organize the office and to run weed whackers provided by Grand View, to trim around as many of the over 40,000 markers as possible.
Here are a few photos of work being done this past weekend. More photos to come.
