Grand View Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif., will be open for visitation Memorial Day weekend two days this year:
Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26
The hours remain the same, from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Gates close to incoming traffic at 3:45 p.m. to ensure on-time release of volunteers at closing time, so please plan your day accordingly.
Southern California is enduring drought conditions which means that the grounds are very dry at the cemetery. For the safety of everyone on the property, the cemetery and the surrounding neighborhood, please observe posted restrictions as dictated by the Glendale Fire Department.
This includes no burning of incense and no smoking.
Case in point: recently a visitor who chose to ignore the restrictions lit an incense which started a destructive fire in the dry grass. Thankfully, it was doused before it got out of control due to quick action by a cemetery worker.
We completely understand the need for nicotine fix. Smoking is permitted outside the front gate of the cemetery where we have provided a butt bucket.
Thank you for supporting Grand View Volunteers! We look forward to bringing you more news about the cemetery this summer. In the meantime, we wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
